New Life Interactive, the indie development studio founded by Sheldon Pacotti (who is probably most well known for his work on Deus Ex), just released a trailer for their upcoming game Cell, which has been in development since September 2010. According to the announcement, the game is “nearly ready for release” and will deliver “an unprecedentedly deep visual simulation representing a new frontier in gameplay.” While both the trailer and the info given on the website are probably more confusing than anything else, Cell indeed seems to deliver a fresh and compelling experience that seems like a hybrid of ReZ, Lumines and Conway’s Game of Life. With Sonic’s 20th anniversary right around the corner, Sega is just pumping out the goodness. It was recently announced that they will release a soundtrack containing all the music from the original Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 some time this summer. Apart from the ingame music, the compilation will also come with a reprint of the original Sonic 1 demotape of the games’ composer Masato Nakamura (of DREAMS COME TRUE), as well as a recording of Sonic 2′s demotape and several other bonus tracks. So far the compilation has only been announced for Japan, but let’s hope Sega doesn’t forget about their western fans.

Rage, the upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter by id Software, has been delayed. According to the updated website, the game will now be available October 4th in the US and October 7th in Europe, which is a few weeks later than originally announced.
No reasons for this have been given as of yet, but since it’s not a huge delay when compared to the total development time so far, we probably won’t have to worry too much. That is, unless one of the megatextures has gone missing and now the team has to texture half the game all over again.
