The long running MMO, Star Wars Galaxies, a game I thought shut down years ago is actually shutting down. Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts sent out their plans to shut down all the servers for the game by December 15th 2011.
During the last week of service, Sony will be having a “galaxy-ending event” that will send the game off in style. I’m guessing it’ll be something like what they did with The Matrix Online. Another title that 5 of you probably remember playing.
Existing subscribers will be able to jump ship to Free Realms, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, EverQuest, or DC Universe Online as fully-paid subscribers from October 15h until December 31st.
I’m just going to take a guess here, but I think DC Universe Online is going to get a lot more players by the end of the year.

People still play that? Holy crap. If they really want to send it off then they should make it free for the last couple months.
Moral of the story? DC Universe Online sucks. No? Not the moral? Oh well, it still sucks. Worst 60 bucks ever spent..
Last I remember, LucasArts put up a big fight about how Galaxies and The Old Republic were both going to be contemporaries. Umm, I guess not… LucasArts hasn’t really pulled it together in recent years.
SWG was finished after the mass exodus due to the NGE update, and the rest of the subscribers that stuck around will bail when TOR is released. So its not really a big deal.
i thought that shut down a long time ago lol
