Official Frontier Gate Site Launched

June 24, 2011 by

frontier

The official site for tri-Ace’s new PSP RPG Frontier Gate has been launched. The new site (which will receive further updates until the game releases) shows off three new characters and several new screenshots. The characters are: Mariashalte, who sports purple hair and a huge lance; Emilio, a settler from Eiburo carrying a sword; and Kurotaki, a black-wearing, Katana-wielding foreigner with a strong will. While the game certainly looks like a clone of Monster Hunter, the battle system is a traditional round-based one. Frontier Gate is slated for release on the PSP some time 2011 in Japan and will probably take a bit longer to arrive overseas.

EA and BioWare get hacked. Personal info at risk.

June 24, 2011 by

eahacked

It would appear that the trend of hacking  game companies is nowhere near its end as EA joins the ranks those that have suffered data breaches this year.  All effected EA accounts were sent an e-mail regarding the attack which explains that the hackers gained enrty into the EA database through an old Bioware server for Neverwinter Nights.  According to EA no credit card information was stolen but passwords, e-mail addresses, mailing addresses, names, phone numbers, CD Keys, and birth dates are all at risk.  EA has since reset everyone’s EA account password and put up a faq on their support page regarding the breach.

Trailer – Saints Row: The Third Gameplay

June 23, 2011 by

saintsmt

I don’t know what you’ve heard about Saints Row, or what your opinion is on the first two, but you should take it, erase it from your memory, and then watch this gameplay walkthrough for Saints Row: The Third.

It has easily sold me on this installment of the game and I completely skipped the second. In it we get to see a car that shoots people like cannon balls (which can be used in co-op) a jet with a laser beam, an airstrike, and apocalypse hands.

Interested? You should be. You need to see this trailer. Also, some bald guy will be in it. I guess that’s cool.

Team Fortress 2 goes Free to Play.

June 23, 2011 by

tf2f2p

This Monday Valve kicked off a free to play week for Team Fortress 2 to celebrate the impending arrival of the “Uber Update” but a new interview with Valve’s Robin Walker revealed that the game will actually be free to play forever.

“We’ve been toying with the idea ever since the Mann-conomy update, where we added the in-game Team Fortress 2 store. Over the years we’ve done a bunch of price experimentations with the game, going all the way down to $2.49 in our random one-hour Halloween sales. The more we’ve experimented, the more we’ve learned there are fundamentally different kinds of customers, each with their own way of valuing the product. Now that we’re shipping it, it feels like a fairly straightforward next step along the “Games as Services” path we’ve been walking down for a while now.”

I’m not really to surprised by this news seeing as how valve has voiced its interest in the free to play model, but I must admit I did not expect it this soon.

L.A. Noire gets PC release this fall.

June 23, 2011 by

lanoire

In May 2011 Rockstar games and Team Bondi released L.A. Noire for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 but PC gamers were left wondering if the game would ever make it to their platform of choice.  Well wonder no longer as Rockstar recently announced that they will be bringing the game to PC this fall with a series of improvements for the platform.

“Developed by Rockstar Leeds and built to run on a wide range of PCs, L.A. Noire’s robust feature customization includes keyboard remapping and gamepad functionality to both optimize and customize performance and user experience. Along with increased fidelity and improved graphical enhancements, the PC version will also feature 3D support for an even greater sense of interaction and immersion within a painstakingly detailed 1940s Los Angeles.”

It’s good to know that Rockstar is finally showing its PC fans some love again.
