Keiji Inafune Announces His First New Game

July 22, 2011 by

Dr Momo

People were moved when Keiji Inafune, best known for the Mega Man series, left Capcom with some rather big remarks on how Japan’s game development was behind. Since then only announcements of his companies were made but now we have an idea on what his next game will be and if you were hoping for anything along the lines of Mega Man or Dead Rising, you’ll probably ridicule it as much as the rest of the internet.

GREE, Index, and Inafune’s new company Comcept will be releasing The Island of Dr. Momo later this year. It is a game for iOS and Android where you play as the mad scientist Dr. Momo who combines animals in attempt to make the world’s cutest thing. Not much beside that is currently known about the game.

Yes, if you’re an H.G. Wells fan, it’s exactly what it sounds like… just cute.

Confirmed Songs, Characters and a Bunch of Screenshots for FF: Theatrhythm

July 22, 2011 by

A lot of screenshots and some new info hit the net today for Square-Enix’ upcoming 3DS Final Fantasy music title Theatrhythm. (In case you’re not familiar with it, check the reveal here) The following tracks have been confirmed to be in the game:

  • The Final Fantasy Theme
  • Battle on the Big Bridge (FFV)
  • One-Winged Angel (FFVII)
  • At Zanarkand (FFX)
  • The Sunleth Waterscape (FFXIII)

As for characters, only 4 have been announced so far: Cloud from FFVII, Warrior of Light (FFI onwards), Onion Knight (FFIII onwards) and Lightning from FFXIII.

I can’t shake the feeling that this whole thing should be nothing more than a minigame in a main installment in the series, but oh well. The game is being overseen by Tetsuya Nomura, so at least it’s in good hands. Hit the jump to check out a bunch of screenshots and character art.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Editions Announced

July 21, 2011 by

Not too long after the rumors and leaks of The Old Republic Collector’s Edition, BioWare has made the news official. Right now, three editions of Star Wars: The Old Republic are available for pre-order. The standard edition is your basic copy of the game with software, game time, and pretty cover.

The Digital Deluxe Edition, which is only on Origin, comes with special in-game items. A Flare Gun, Training Droid, HoloDancer, HoloCam, and a STAP (Single Trooper Aerial Platform if you aren’t a Star Wars buff) are all included.

The biggest set is the actual Collector’s Edition of The Old Republic. The massive set contains all of the in-game items from the DDE along with The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural, a Darth Malgus statue, The Old Republic Galaxy Map, Security Authentication Key Fob, a Music of Star Wars: The Old Republic CD, the game in a metal collector’s case, an exclusive in-game Mouse Droid, and access to a Collector’s Edition in-game store which I assume is better than other stores.

Also, those who pre-order the game will get Early Access to the game. Sounds great for big Star Wars fans and gamers but what about that release date, BioWare?

Lost Winds comes to iOS and Android

July 21, 2011 by

Lost Winds was one of the first titles out the gates when WiiWare launched back in May of 2008. The game itself is known as one of the better titles available on the service and even got a sequel in Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodies ;however, being a WiiWare exclusive has kept the series out of many people’s hands due to the stigma that comes with the normally poor quality of software available on the service.  Frontier Development seems to seek to change that by releasing Lost Winds on both iOS and Android later this year.  The game will have touch screen controls to replace the Wiimote as well as a virtual joypad for character movement.  No word yet on an exact release date or pricing yet but expect the game in the app store soon.

I’m not so sure how I feel about the game working with a virtual joypad but if they implement it right this game could be great for the platform.  I was a big fan of the series on WiiWare and I would high suggest checking it out if you havent already.

Suda51 brings ‘pop’ to Zombies with Lollipop Chainsaw

July 20, 2011 by

This weeks Famitsu magazine revealed details on the newest project of Suda51 titled Lollipop Chainsaw. The game is a Third Person zombie action game with a “pop” style.  The player takes on the role of Juliet Starling a cheerleader tasked with fending off the hoards of zombies that have infested her highschool. One of the main differences from Lollipop Chainsaw when compared to other zombie action games is its stylized gore.

“Instead of sprays of blood, we have the zombies emitting bursts of pink light,” ”When it comes to gore, we can certainly go that way if we want, but we wanted to give the game more of a ‘pop’ feel.”

Yoshimi Yasuda of Kadokawa games has stated that the game already has a publisher in line for release in English but he did not mention the publisher’s name. No release date is known as of yet but the game will be coming to both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.

Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 Announced

July 20, 2011 by

The internet is abuzz right now with the announcement of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. The game will be shown at Comic-Con and features 12 new characters, 8 new stages and some refinements to the gameplay. With this announcement following so soon after the cancelation of Megaman Legends 3 and coupled with that ingenious idea of not being able to delete savegames from Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D, Capcom is apparently doing their hardest to piss off their fans. Good job so far, Capcom!

Final Fantasy Type 0 Gets First Release Date

July 20, 2011 by

Final Fantasy Type 0 will be released in Japan on October 13th and ship on two UMDs. No word on an international release date has been given so far.

And…that’s about all I have to say. No use padding this post out, as people who actually care about this game will already be familiar with it.

Sega Delays 3DS Titles Shinobi & CRUSH3D

July 19, 2011 by

Shinobi 3DS

Relative dates, and even supposed final dates, are never really set in stone when it comes to the gaming industry and with a relative date of September 2011 for Sega’s upcoming 3DS titles, they have proven that is the case.

Sega has given dates for Shinobi’s 3DS outing and the new CRUSH3D. Shinobi will return to form on November 15 and CRUSH3D has been set for a February 21, 2012 release. These are very significant delays for anyone who had hopes of picking these up, especially if the September window had them excited at all. No reason for the delay was given but it’s safe to assume that the teams needed more time to work on the games. Better to have a late coming game than an unfinished one.
