Taito Teases Groove Coaster

July 15, 2011 by

grvcstr

Taito recently teased a new game from Reisuke Ishida the creative mind behind Space Invaders: Infinity Gene.  The company posted a link on it’s twitter page to a teaser site that shows a Space Invader with headphones glowing ominously.  The site promises that the game will be “an exhilarating next-gen groove game!”.  No other details are known as of yet so we can only speculate but chances are it is a music based rhythm game of some sort.

Considering the soundtrack of Infinity Gene was my favorite part of the release the idea of Taito making a game based around said tunes sounds pretty good.  If they can pump out the same quality of release then I’m already sold on the game.

First Two Potential Spouses for Rune Factory 4 Revealed

July 15, 2011 by

rune2

We reported on the upcoming 4th main installment in the long-running Rune Factory franchise, and how this time you could have several partners/lovers at once. Now Marvelous Entertainment has revealed two possible candidates to work your magic on. The first one is Margaret, a kind and helpful elven girl that can entertain your dinner guests with beautiful music; and while she has severe acrophobia, she lives at the edge of a cliff. Awesome idea.

Female players will get a chance to get together with Vishnal (at least I think that’s what he’s called; the romanization of his name is bishunaru), a meek and naive boy who’s training hard to become a court official after he left home because of an argument he had with his parents. Yeah, I’m…not even gonna say anything about that one.

Hit the jump to take a look at these first two potential spouses.

Ubisoft adopts the online pass system with Uplay Passport.

July 14, 2011 by

upay

Ubisoft seems intent on joining the ranks of the Online Pass club alongside current inductees like EA, THQ, Codemasters, WB and Sony.  Ubisofts own pass will be named the Uplay Passport and its first implementation will be in the upcoming Driver: San Francisco.  As with all online passes new copies of the game will come with an unlock code for the multiplayer component.  People who buy the game second-hand will need to buy an online pass for the game on XBLA or PSN.  No word yet on whether or not this will be in all future Ubisoft titles but considering the trend it seems likely to be the case.

This is the sort of thing that really annoys me about the games industry. I don’t comprehend how publishers think punishing the consumer for buying a used game is a good idea when chances are it is more likely to turn them off of your brand. The way things are going I wouldn’t be surprised if they start fully implementing DRM in console releases in the next generation.

Capcom Contest Suggests Devil May Cry HD Announcement

July 14, 2011 by

DMC4

Whether you love or hate the new Dante, there’s a hopeful future in store for fans of Devil May Cry. A new contest on Capcom Unity suggests that the rumored Devil May Cry HD Collection for the series 10th anniversary could be announced as early as Comic-Con.

The contest is rounding up fans to create their best piece of DMC art and submit it to the site and the winners chosen will win a copy of a “to be announced Capcom game” upon release. At Comic-Con, Capcom has a new title that will be announced and it’s shaping up that it may be the HD Collection fans have been wanting since this HD remaster trend started. The general idea is that with Ninja Theory’s DmC on the way, anything related to Devil May Cry would have to be an anniversary collection. Chances to enter the contest end on July 29th.

The Devil May Cry games are something I wouldn’t mind playing through again in HD, especially if it was more of an anniversary collection than just a disc with HD ports. Regardless, time will tell whether this is the case or not. Devil May Cry celebrates a decade of gaming on October 17.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Still Just a Fantasy

July 13, 2011 by

Versus XIII

If there’s one game that many Final Fantasy fans are looking forward to it’s Final Fantasy Versus XIII. While it doesn’t have a mainstream following right now, many followers of the franchise are more excited for Versus than XIII, XIII-2, and Type-0 combined.

The five year wait has been long with very little about the game known. Well, the wait is about to get longer according to a Famitsu interview with Tetsuya Nomura in which he states that the game is preparing to enter full development and that they are focused on getting XIII-2 and Type-0 out first. According to the story he didn’t say much else other than that they were removing in-game cutscenes that the play can’t control and keeping the series time-honored pre-rendered scenes and realtime event sequences to structure the story.

Game development is my hobby so I know that when they say it’s entering full development, that means it’s shifting into their main focus because the top staff work on all Fabula Nova Crystallis games and some have priority over others. I wouldn’t expect much at this year’s Tokyo Game Show but none of this means it couldn’t see a release by the end of 2012.

3DS eShop update adds Netflix Support

July 13, 2011 by

netflix3ds

Tomorrow the 3DS joins the ranks of portable devices that are capable of accessing Netflix. The news was revealed via an e-mail sent out by Nintendo earlier today.  In addition to the free Netflix app the eShop update will also include Extreme Hangman 2, Afterzoom, Baseball, Puzzle Fever, Just Sing 80′s Collection, and Game & Watch Gallery.

Normally I would be excited at the idea of having a portable Netflix device but seeing as how I recently got an iPod touch this doesn’t do much for me, however; if they ever get 3D movies on the service I will definitely  be checking it out.

Konami Releases Lords of Shadow Beta Footage feat. Simon Belmont

July 13, 2011 by

simon

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was a worthy entry in the long-running Castlevania franchise and definitely the best 3D Castlevania to date. Now Konami released some official concept footage of the game, featuring none other than Simon Belmont, the original NES vampire hunter. While I actually liked Gabriel quite a lot, I wonder how the game would have turned out with Simon as the main man. Check out the video after the jump.
