Sony working on fixing European Playstation Plus issues.

July 8, 2011 by

psplusrerep

Some PlayStation Plus Subscribers in Europe have been reporting that they haven’t been able to access this months new content. The issue seems to only be effecting people who had used the free 30 day trial in the “Welcome Back” campaign and then decided to pay for a plus subscription.  Playstation Network product manager James Thorpe stated that Sony is “aware of the problem” and that they are “working on this problem now as a matter of priority”

Its a shame this had to happen to new customers of the service but at least Sony has started working on the problem quickly. Hopefully they fix the problem before the new subscribers miss out on the free download of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

Namco Bandai Sues CD Projekt RED

July 8, 2011 by

The Witcher 2

If you know anything about The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, you might know that it has about four or five companies who publish it across the world. One of those publishers has filed a lawsuit against the parent company of CD Projeckt RED, Optimus SA.

It seems as if Namco Bandai, the publisher of The Witcher 2 on PC in Europe, has an issues with THQ publishing the PAL version of the game for Xbox 360. The company also states that CD Projekt violated contract by removing the PC’s DRM without permission and they are withholding about $1.75 million dollars from the developer because of the issues.

Optimus and CD Projekt responded by stating that Namco Bandai was contracted only for the PC version and they took steps to make sure that was clear and they believe that the “claims are unfounded.”

Vita Not to Carry the PSP’s Mistakes

July 8, 2011 by

PSV

Sony Worldwide Studios President, Shuhei Yoshida recently talked to Gamesindustry.biz regarding many aspects of Sony’s upcoming handheld, the Playstation Vita. In the interview, Yoshida stated that they always had the $249 price point in mind ever since they began planning the Vita about three years ago. Working with the features they wanted to implement and the price they were trying to achieve within budget made them look at every option they had. He stated that this is how their process was different from the PS3. Yoshida also explained where they went wrong with the PSP.

“We were very happy having something very close to the PS2 experience in a portable format with the PSP, but we didn’t do a good enough job creating the proper interface to really play games with graphics in 3D.”

Yoshida points out the Vita’s second analog stick as the result and that the PSP’s graphics were quickly outdated by the player’s comfort with the newer HD consoles. With graphics simply not being enough, he reasoned that interface and innovating it with the touch screen and camera was a focus.

One last thing covered by the interview was Sony’s promise that the transition of developers to the Vita would be smooth and cost-effective.

Bethesda Announces ‘Dishonored’

July 7, 2011 by

Dishonored

Game Informer blew the lid on Bethesda’s newest IP in their reveal for the August 2011 cover of the magazine. A little while ago, it was noticed that Bethesda had trademarked a game called Dishonored and today the existence of the game was confirmed.

Dishonored is described as a first-person stealth/action adventure game from Arkane Studios and according to the reveal, it has some pretty big names attached to the project. Along with Arkane Studios’ own Raf Colantonio, the project has Harvey Smith (best known for his creation of Deus Ex along side Warren Spector) and Viktor Antonov (designer of Half Life 2′s City 17) on board.

Though we don’t know much right now, Dishonored sounds very promising already but we’ll have to wait until the full reveal for all of the details Bethesda is willing to share.

Pokemon Say Tap announced for iOS and Android.

July 6, 2011 by

pokemonmibile

Nintendo of Japan has announced that the Pokemon franchise will be coming to the apple app store and the android market this summer in Japan. The game is named “Pokemon Say Tap” and is said to be a rhythm based game where players tap Pokemon cards to the beat of music. The game will also be available for free on both platforms. When asked if other Nintendo franchises would be appearing on these platforms as well Nintendo of Japan spokesmen Yasuhiro Minagawa stated “Nintendo’s strategy to develop software only for its own hardware hasn’t changed and won’t change”. No word on any North American release of the title as of yet.

Kinda crazy to think that people in Japan can soon play a Pokemon game on the Sony Xperia Play. Hopefully we will eventually get the title stateside as well.
