Final Fantasy X, X-2, and XII in HD?

HD remakes seem to be the thing to do in the game industry these days. It is a low risk venture with almost always much to gain. Some of the biggest franchises of all time have hopped on the HD bandwagon, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, and Resident Evil, just to name a few. But Final Fantasies not ending in 13, have yet to be given that HD treatment. The wait could be over soon.

Final Fantasy Producer, Yoshinori Kitase said in an interview with 360 Achievements that remakes of these PS2 titles would be considered if the demand was high enough. Let’s take a look at that “demand” shall we? Final Fantasy X has sold over 6.32 million units worldwide, X-2 over 5.2 million worldwide, and XII over 5.7 million worldwide. It seems that the demand is there and rabid Final Fantasy fans would snatch up an HD collection in seconds. If sales numbers don’t equal demand, then head on over to GameFAQs, and check out the boards for these three games, they are some of the most active on the site and each one is over five years old.

Square Enix has said that they were embarrassed by their lack of Eastern games at E3 this year, why not jump on the HD train? They have already said numerous times that a remake of Final Fantasy VII or any other PS1 era Final Fantasy would be to time consuming and costly, but putting a nice HD touch up on the PS2 era games shouldn’t tax the Japanese company to much and in my opinion would be a step in the right direction for the once gaming juggernaut.

This release week is pretty much underwhelming. It is nice to see the 3DS get another game but Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition perplexes me. How many people are going to actually buy a physical copy of this game? I assume most fans have already downloaded the extra content which came out a few weeks ago. I suppose this is a good buy for someone who hasn’t already bought a copy of Super Street Fighter IV, but other than that audience I don’t see it selling like hotcakes. Of course this is Street Fighter so I am most likely completely wrong.

Save Bastion on July 20th

Indie developer SuperGiantGames has just announced over their Twitter account (@SupergiantGames) that Bastion will be released on Xbox Live Arcade on July 20th, for 1200 MSP. It will be the first title in this year’s Summer of Arcade promotion, along with From Dust and Toy Soldiers: Cold War, to name a few of my most eagerly awaited games in that program.

SuperGiantGames has garnered quite a reputation after securing a publishing deal with Warner Bros Interactive shortly before this year’s E3. Bastion had a small booth at the show but attracted a lot of attention regardless, with its mix of Diablo gameplay with a beautiful and colorful pastel painting.

The developer was formed early last year by ex EALA devs Amir Rao, Gavin Simon and Darren Korb, who were later joined by former 2K producer Greg Kasavin, programmer Andrew Wang, artist Jenn Zee and Logan Cunningham, who provides the voice for Bastion’s storyteller and narrator.

Video Games Come To Redbox

Back in April of this year the Redbox corporation announced that they would soon be offering video game rentals in their kiosks nationwide. This week that announcement came to fruition. 21,000 out of 27,000 of the popular video renting kiosks now have the latest titles for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Redbox began testing $2-per-day game rentals in 2009, and said that in two years consumers rented more than 1 million games from its 5,000 test locations.

Does this change the way you will be renting games in the future? It might be a nice option for those who don’t use GameFly or those relics called Blockbuster. To find a Redbox nearest to you, click here.

Impressions – Dead Island

Dead Island has been pretty controversial since it was announced. At first people were mad about the depiction of children within the game, but that seemed to give way to the excitement people felt for a new, realistic zombie game.

Today Super Hero News, what Microsoft has planned for E3, and the first gameplay trailer of Modern Warfare 3. I’m Destin and this is your Daily DL.

Theres more Playstation news people are sick of hearing about, (Source: Evil Avatar) a new x-men character was revealed for X-Men Destiny… a game no ones excited for, (Source: GI) and The Penguin was revealed as a Batman Arkham City Villain. (Source: Arkham) You know what, that’s it. That’s like 3 stories right there. Let’s just move on.

Microsoft sent out badges to their press conference… which… I still haven’t reveived… and some…. okay just Nick Chester of Destructoid noticed that it includes some hints at big announcements. (Source: Nick Chester the Detective) There’s stickers that say Master Chief, Cortana, and stickers that reference the Halo franchise. Because Nick Chester is also a detective that fight’s crime at night, he figured out that Microsoft could be kicking off E3 with a big announcement about our favorite Spartan. Monday June 6th is the day we’ll find out if he’s right, but make sure to keep his alternate identity a secret. I got your back Nick.

and finally, my entire excuse for recording an episode today. (Source: The Daily DL) The Modern Warfare 3 Trailer. That’s right, the first gameplay trailer of Modern Warfare 3 was released by Activision and dam it looks so freaking good. Haven’t seen it yet? Here’s a clip.

You know, this trailer does prove a hypothesis of mine. Adding dramatic impacts and fade outs to any situation makes it much more intense. Need proof. Fine.

The top stories this week are Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, StarHawk, and Hitman! That’s right it’s time for your weekly wrap up on The Daily DL.com.

Nintendo dropped the price of their console known as the Wii. (Source: Nintendo) Maybe you’ve heard of it. Now you’ll be able to get the soon to be extremely outdated piece of hardware for the low low price of $150 dollars. Be the laugh of the neighborhood when everyone else is getting the Wii 2, and your cheap ass just got an old outdated dust collector. Hey, at least it comes with Mario Kart… and a steering wheel now. Something else you’ll throw away in six months.

Some Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 artwork was leaked onto the net. (Source: HBG)This included box art, a logo, and some kind of elite stamp with a bunch of guns behind it. These new leaked images that Activision refused to comment on are a great time to introduce my new segment.

I’M CALLING IT.

FAKE. There is no way that Activision would release such crap. Especially that Elite stamp. I mean who in their right mind would do that to the Call of Duty logo. It just looks ugly and that’s why I’m calling it. It’s Fake! Nice try Photoshop nerds.

Moving on, it would seem that Kotaku had an exclusive this Friday looking at Modern Warfare 3. (Source: Kotaku) Anyway, you might remember Kotaku as that website you went to before they let a drawing two chimpanzees made in their feces dictate their re-design. They revealed that Modern Warfare 3 will arrive November 8th, 2011 and will find us fighting wars in New York, Paris, and London. Of course the week wouldn’t be complete without talking a little bit about Sony. This week… almost a month after the outage began Sony sent out a nice letter to the companies that lost millions and millions of dollars due to the outage. (Source: DTOID) They said “we’re sorry” and outlined what they’ll be doing to make it all better. Way to be on the ball, and professional guys. Speaking of being on the ball, Bloomberg said that Sony’s goal was to have PSN back up by the 31st which Sony quickly slapped down. (Source: CVG) A conversation took place where a Sony rep said the following. Whoa whoa whoa. We have no fucking clue when the network is going to be back up oh my god why did you say that we’re so fucked I’m going to get fired. Do you know how pissed Capcom why are you writing this down? Then the transcriber stopped writing. So to recap… the consensus is that Sony still sucks. I’ll keep you updated.

Ohh yeah. OKAY to be fair they did reveal Starhawk this week. (Source: IGN) Starhawk is new the cool looking space shooter that is the sequel to the online only Warhawk. I’ve sworn a lot during this show, and I hate using the word awesome, but the best way to describe how Starhawk is looking, is by saying it’s looking FUCKING AWESOME. Now get your damn online fixed Sony so I can play it. Seriously

There were a few other stories this week I feel I need to hit on, but there short updates so lets do them all as fast as possible. It’s afterburner time. 3… 2… 1…

Street Fighter X Tekken will be in stores by 2012 and no one cares, because the much better sequel will follow 6 month’s later.

A new Assassin’s creed game was released further raping Ezio. But Altair will be in it making it worthwhile.

Someone at 1UP got ripped off buying a green ds lite. In other news, I just made $200 dollars.

Brink came out this week and it sucked… on a planet where an almost 70% average review is SUCKING WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU INTERNET?

Finally, Dark Souls is going to be harder than ever. How hard? Let’s take a look… that boulder killed him that was great and Stop…. decent time, but I think I can do better next week.

finally, my biggest piece of news was all about Hitman. A new Hitman has finally been confirmed after a long wait with an extremely short trailer. The Trailer shows Agent 47 tightining a silencer on his gun, a rattle snake coiling a gun, and a brief glimpse at UPC number. And about that UPC number, I’ve got one more segment for you. I’m callin’ it.

Didn’t see that comin’

So you see a UPC in the new Hitman trailer, you enter it online and guess what. It’s for a dildo bag. (Source: Gamesradar)I did not see that comin’. I wonder what the marketing guys were thinking of. “Hey bob, we need a upc! What Frank? We Need a UPC Bob. Oh yeah, how about this one? Yeah that should work, where did you get it? Oh I just grabbed the first upc I could find on Google. Thanks Frank. People have weird conversations in my head.

The Daily DL – 03/29/11

Today a Tokyo Game Show update, Grand Theft Auto V leaks, and it’s time for Mass Effect 2: Arrival. I’m Destin and this is your Daily DL.

Did you know there were talks of canceling TGS? Neither did I! (Source: 1UP) Don’t worry though, it’s still going to happen, but it might be a bit smaller than last year. This is due to the tsunami that hit Japan causing massive amounts of destruction. TGS management said that they’re are not any current plans to cancel the show or to make it smaller, but depending on the situation from here on out, it is possible that the show is reduced. At least the show will go on and hopefully by September, things have calmed down a bit.

Anyway, if you’ve been waiting for details on Grand Theft Auto V, I think someone at Rockstar let the cat out of the bag for you. A “private” casting call was supposedly put out by Take 2 that’s looking for actors to play some colorful individuals. Matthew, Jose, James, Samantha, and Anthony complete the list of characters, who have traits that range from being a young boy fighting for his right to drink and smoke, to a woman that’s obsessed with sex parties. I like em both already. Expect plenty of denials and no comment responses from Take 2 on this story until E3 2011.

finally, the Mass Effect 2 arrival trailer was released and I’m going to have to tell you how awesome it is. (Source: IGN) Things happen, a reaper guy talks to Shepard, and there’s at least one explosion. If that’s not enough Mass Effect fanboyism… I mean news for you, Bioware is apparently considering some changes for Mass Effect 3. (Source: GamesRadar) They may change up the HUD, making it more like the one seen in Dead Space 2, and they could even give the enemies an overhaul making them easier to identify. Interesting. Going back to the Arrival DLC, it has been said to be around 1 hour long, which is still 20 times longer than I can last in the bed..room level of Mass Effect 2. It’s Tali’s fault not mine.
