Confirmed Songs, Characters and a Bunch of Screenshots for FF: Theatrhythm

July 22, 2011 by

THEATRHYTHM

A lot of screenshots and some new info hit the net today for Square-Enix’ upcoming 3DS Final Fantasy music title Theatrhythm. (In case you’re not familiar with it, check the reveal here) The following tracks have been confirmed to be in the game:

  • The Final Fantasy Theme
  • Battle on the Big Bridge (FFV)
  • One-Winged Angel (FFVII)
  • At Zanarkand (FFX)
  • The Sunleth Waterscape (FFXIII)

As for characters, only 4 have been announced so far: Cloud from FFVII, Warrior of Light (FFI onwards), Onion Knight (FFIII onwards) and Lightning from FFXIII.

I can’t shake the feeling that this whole thing should be nothing more than a minigame in a main installment in the series, but oh well. The game is being overseen by Tetsuya Nomura, so at least it’s in good hands. Hit the jump to check out a bunch of screenshots and character art.

Sega Delays 3DS Titles Shinobi & CRUSH3D

July 19, 2011 by

Shinobi 3DS

Relative dates, and even supposed final dates, are never really set in stone when it comes to the gaming industry and with a relative date of September 2011 for Sega’s upcoming 3DS titles, they have proven that is the case.

Sega has given dates for Shinobi’s 3DS outing and the new CRUSH3D. Shinobi will return to form on November 15 and CRUSH3D has been set for a February 21, 2012 release. These are very significant delays for anyone who had hopes of picking these up, especially if the September window had them excited at all. No reason for the delay was given but it’s safe to assume that the teams needed more time to work on the games. Better to have a late coming game than an unfinished one.

Capcom Cancels Megaman Legends 3

July 19, 2011 by

mml3

In a move that I can only describe as baffling, Capcom announced that they have canceled production on Megaman Legends 3. This comes as quite a surprise, as Capcom previously went to great lengths to make the game in the first place. It took them roughly 10 years to even start production on it and then they approached fans to get feedback and input, in order to make the game a worthy entry in the popular franchise. The only reason for the cancelation given was that the project “wasn’t meeting it’s goals at this time”.

Call me unprofessional, but canceling the game after teasing us fans is kind of a dick move, especially with such a lame reason.

First Two Potential Spouses for Rune Factory 4 Revealed

July 15, 2011 by

rune2

We reported on the upcoming 4th main installment in the long-running Rune Factory franchise, and how this time you could have several partners/lovers at once. Now Marvelous Entertainment has revealed two possible candidates to work your magic on. The first one is Margaret, a kind and helpful elven girl that can entertain your dinner guests with beautiful music; and while she has severe acrophobia, she lives at the edge of a cliff. Awesome idea.

Female players will get a chance to get together with Vishnal (at least I think that’s what he’s called; the romanization of his name is bishunaru), a meek and naive boy who’s training hard to become a court official after he left home because of an argument he had with his parents. Yeah, I’m…not even gonna say anything about that one.

Hit the jump to take a look at these first two potential spouses.

Final Fantasy: Theatrhythm Announced

July 11, 2011 by

theat

Square-Enix recently revealed a new Final Fantasy title they’re working on for the 3DS together with developer indieszero. It’s called Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy and will be a music game featuring music from all the numbered installments in the series up to XIII.

Yes, you read that right. And yes, it’s called Theatrhythm. You thought Dissidia: Duodecim was bad?

Each numbered entry in the Final Fantasy series basically comprises one episode of the game. After choosing a party, episode and difficulty level, players will go through three main stages, Field, Battle and Event, all the while interacting with the world using music-based gameplay. Defeating monsters will level up the characters, although no details on how that will work have been given as of yet. Players will also be able to unlock new music, movies and other things.

No release date has been given so far. Hit the jump to see the first two screenshots of the game in action.

Rune Factory 4 (3DS) Detailed

July 5, 2011 by

rune

Marvelous Entertainment recently released some new info on the 4th portable installment of their successful Harvest Moon spin-off series Rune Factory. No release date has been given as of yet, but the game will come out some time in 2011 and it’s extremely likely that Natsume will once again bring the game to the US and Europe.

In this 3DS-exclusive installment, you take control of either Les or Frey. At the beginning of the game, your character falls out of an airship and onto a dragon, losing his (or her) memory on impact. The dragon then somehow arranges your character to be regarded as the prince/princess of the country, giving you a little more freedom than previous games in the series and allowing you to construct buildings and institutions like pharmacies or smithies. For an introduction to some of the new systems employed in the game, check after the jump.

Capcom Addresses Resident Evil Save Issues

June 29, 2011 by

The Mercenaries 3D

You’re probably aware by now that some people are having a problem with Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D for the 3DS. When you begin the game, there’s no turning back and one cannot restart their saved game if they want to start over. This has come off as a ploy to discourage used game purchases. Some are upset by this while others could care less.

Well, today Capcom has made a statement about the game saves for The Mercenaries 3D. On the Capcom forums, a statement was released saying that it was a design decision to allow everyone to access content and that the sale of used games were not a factor in deciding this.

After the post was made, they promised to try to answer as many questions as possible about the game.

‘In Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, all mission progress is saved directly to the Nintendo 3DS cartridge, where it cannot be reset. The nature of the game invites high levels of replayability, encouraging fans to improve upon mission scores. The save mechanic ensures that both original and unlocked game content will be available to all users. Secondhand game sales were not a factor in this development decision, and we hope that all our consumers will be able to enjoy the entirety of the survival-action experiences that the game does offer.’

So, basically if you buy it used, just think of it like going to the arcade in the old days and trying to beat someone else’s score.

Cave Story 3D to Stay Underground Until November

June 27, 2011 by

cave

I guess we’ll have to stay above ground for a little while longer, as Cave Story 3D, the reinterpretation of the indie classic heading to the Nintendo 3DS has been delayed until November. While this is a good 3 months later than the originally intended release date of August 3rd, at least it seems like the developers are using the time efficiently. From the official press release:

“We are currently undergoing improvements to enhance gameplay. Changes are in the
small details, but in order to satisfy both the fans and the new players we need to make
sure the game is done right. Please look forward to it this holiday season. Cave Story 3D
will be a blast.”  -Jack Niida, producer at NIS America
