Earlier this month at E3 Nintendo announced that a new Super Smash Bros game was in the works for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. Sadly it seems Nintendo president Satoru Iwata may have made the announcement a bit prematurely as this weeks Famitsu magazine revealed that production of the game has yet to begin. Masahiro Sakurai’s revealed that his studio Project Sora is currently focusing all its resources on the upcoming Kid Icarus: Uprising.
“Right now, we’re devoting all our manpower to working on Kid Icarus,” “We’ve got no plans whatsoever — we’ve got two new games out in the open when there’s no extra time to work with them at all. It makes me cringe, and I’m not sure it’s the smartest thing to make gamers wait for several years, but the early announcement was made chiefly in order to attract new team members.”
I suppose fans of the franchise can at least be happy that the game will eventually be made. Just don’t hold your breath on it being a Wii U launch title.

It’s been known that a sequel to 2006′s Nintendo DS game Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is on it’s way since March, but now some info and screens were finally released. Just like the main gameplay, the large-scale battles of the previous game will remain intact, although this time the giant tanks will be replaced by ships waging war on the open sea. It’s not sure if the game will be released internationally at this point, but seeing as how the previous game was met with a warm reception and the main Dragonquest series is seeing one international DS release after another, it seems pretty likely that Rocket Slime will set course for Western territories as well. Walk the plank Hit the jump for some screenshots.

Earlier this month Dead or Alive: Dimensions was pulled off store shelves in Australia due to the Australian Classification Board revoking the games PG rating. The move to revoke the rating was in response to media outcry of the game’s depiction of underage women. Nintendo has stated that the game had already been classified PG by the time they became the official distributor; however, according the ratings board the original distributor THQ did not demonstrate the game during its original evaluation. The game has since been reclassified with an M rating.
“The female characters are invariably depicted with large breasts and wearing clothing that accentuates their cleavage. The female characters are also depicted in short skirts…which allow for a female’s clothed crotch to be seen. The Classification Board believes that due to the realistically depicted female forms, the outfits worn and the ability of the player to zoom in and take photos of specific body parts of characters within the game consumer advice of sexualised gameplay is appropriate at an M classification.”
With the new rating in place the game should be available for sale once again.

Eurogamer reports that the much anticipated 3D remake of the original N64 classic Starfox 64 (aka Lylat Wars) will arrive on American store shelves on September 11th, while Europeans will get it 2 days earlier on September 9th. This is a lot later than the Japanese release date of July 17th, but at least we all have a date with Slippy now.

Here’s a little something missed from Friday. The Wall Street Journal posted an installment of The Big Interview in which they spoke to everybody’s favorite, Reggie Fils-Aime. In the long, 20 minute, soft-spoken interview, they pulled up some key topics about the Wii U and 3DS and how Nintendo is reacting to their record stock drop.
In short, they aren’t, not conventionally anyway. Reggie stated that their drop in shares could be due to disappointment that Nintendo was not yet ready at E3 to talk price or date for the Wii U. When asked if the possible price of the console and complexity of the controller could impact Nintendo, Reggie cited the usual story. One, is that they will size up the value and customer experience to determine price as they did the Wii and second, that E3 showed that users can easily pick up and play the new tablet as easy as they did the Wiimote. From what I pulled from the interview, they plan to let the console speak for itself.
While Reggie gave the old song and dance, he also addressed the sluggish 3DS launch. Though not much compared to the Wii U talk, Reggie did say that the eShop has had over a million transactions so far and that the 3DS is in an upswing. They are confident that the current trends will reverse soon.
It’s obvious that Nintendo won’t budge on the Wii U issues and specifics until they’re ready. I think Nintendo has the right stuff, and the Wii U certainly has the potential, but they still have a lot to prove to those on the fence.
