Bethesda Announces ‘Dishonored’

July 7, 2011 by

Dishonored

Game Informer blew the lid on Bethesda’s newest IP in their reveal for the August 2011 cover of the magazine. A little while ago, it was noticed that Bethesda had trademarked a game called Dishonored and today the existence of the game was confirmed.

Dishonored is described as a first-person stealth/action adventure game from Arkane Studios and according to the reveal, it has some pretty big names attached to the project. Along with Arkane Studios’ own Raf Colantonio, the project has Harvey Smith (best known for his creation of Deus Ex along side Warren Spector) and Viktor Antonov (designer of Half Life 2′s City 17) on board.

Though we don’t know much right now, Dishonored sounds very promising already but we’ll have to wait until the full reveal for all of the details Bethesda is willing to share.

Bethesda Talks More About Skyrim

July 6, 2011 by

Skyrim

Yesterday, Bethesda answered the questions of fans about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on their forums. The fan interview answered questions regarding the features of the main character such as customization, race, interaction, and even your character’s voice. You won’t have one, but you’ll be doing a lot of Dragonshouts. It also covered the topics of gameplay such as combat, returning items and equipment, advantages of terrain, and the coveted battle against the dragons. If you want to know all of the specifics just give it a read here.

However if there is one major thing to take away from the fan interview, it’s that this is proof that Skyrim, like past entries, is a PC game to the core. Todd Howard explained how if PC players have a dedicated system they will get better textures, render models, and other effects that improve the game. He also made it clear that a Creation Kit is coming for PC.

“The PC version also gets higher res textures, larger render models, and a bunch of other effects you can scale up if your machine is a beast. Last but most important, is the Creation Kit we’ll be releasing for the PC. Modding the game and making it your own is very important to us and our fans, so we’re going to keep doing whatever we can in that area.”

Like the full force return of fighting games, it’s good to see so much PC dedicated content on the way.

warrock

The free-to-play online multiplayer first-person shooter War Rock, created by the South Korean studio Dream Execution and hosted in the West by K2 Network is getting a facelift. As part of a large-scale update started on June 7th, the game received several graphical changes both obvious and subtle yesterday, such as new textures and more detailed models. Next on the list are changes to the overall game system, which will be implemented after July.

War Rock is sort of a hybrid between Counter Strike and Battlefield. Players choose between two teams and then duke it out in 6 different game modes. If you want to find out more or give the game a go, head on over to the official website. It’s free to play and definitely worth a try.

June 28, 2011 by

shift2freedlc

Fans of Shift 2 Unleashed on Xbox 360 and PS3 have already gotten some DLC love with both the Legends and Speedhunters DLC packs, however; PC owners have been left high and dry since the games launch in late March of this year.  That all changes this Thursday though as EA has announced that both DLC packs will be hitting the PC version this thursday for free.  The packs will include “27 new cars, five new tracks, and two new game modes”.  Good on EA for throwing the PC userbase a bone.  More details on the packs themselves after the jump. read the entry »

Tribes: Ascend is Free-to-Play, Will Make Players Buy Loadouts

June 28, 2011 by

tribes2

It looks like the upcoming installment in the long-running Tribes franchise (check here for our previous coverage) will be free-to-play. In order to make the game financially feasible, developer Hi-Rez is taking a hint from League of Legends and will make the players buy their loadouts. So if you want to play as a fast, nimble character, you’ll have to buy a loadout for that. Want to defend your flag with heavy weaponry? Buy a heavy loadout featuring heavy weaponry.

Hi-Rez plans to release new loadouts in regular intervals, mixing different equipment like armor, weapons, grenades, etc. , just like Riot does with Champions in League of Legends. To be honest, I’m not sure if this is such a good idea. Will the game be able to stay balanced when not everyone has access to the same loadouts? Will players actually want to own several different loadouts, or just buy the one that suits their playstyle? This announcement sure stirs up some questions, but I guess we’ll see how it all works out when Tribes: Ascend releases later this year.
