Japanese gaming site 4Gamer got their hands on some new gameplay footage for the upcoming 3rd Person Shooter Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, developed by Vicious Cycle Studios and sequel to 2007′s Earth Defense Force 2017. While the graphics won’t blow you away, the game looks very fun and should definitely be worth a try for anyone into co-op Shooters; and really, who isn’t?
Since I won’t be making any obvious puns about bugs being in the game, just hit the jump and check out the nearly 10 minutes worth of footage.

At this year’s E3 it has been revealed that Sega’s upcoming squad-based 3d Person Shooter Binary Domain, which is being developed by the team behind the Yakuza franchise, will allow you to use voice commands to bark orders to your squadmates via a headset or Kinect. Now Famitsu has revealed some more info on the feature. Not only will you be able to yell things like Shoot! or Take Cover! during battles to coordinate your team, but you will also be able to talk to them outside of battle. Here they’ll update you on the situation, their status and tell you things related to the current story progress. It will also happen that they’ll occasionally refuse to obey your commands, allowing you “to experience a real battlefield”.
Looks like Sega is putting a lot of effort into making the whole squad dynamic feel natural and realistic. Let’s hope the voice recognition works as well as it should when the game releases in early 2012.

Nintendo made an official announcement today regarding Operation Rainfall (see our previous story here), the fan campaign striving to persuade Nintendo into releasing three Wii-games in the US that so far are only available in Japan: Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower. Their response? From the official Operation Rainfall blog:
“We promised an update, so here it is,” NOA announced on its official Facebook page. “We never say ‘never,’ but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games (Xenoblade aka Monado, The Last Story, Pandora’s Tower) to the Americas at this time.”
Here’s a protip for you, Nintendo: If you really want people to believe that you’ll cater to the hardcore-crowd with the Wii U, I’d suggest you start right now. If you already have three hardcore games lined up, where’s the harm in releasing them to people who are a) obviously eager and willing to pay for them and b) allegedly the group of gamers you want to win back?

Bungie has been teasing Bungie Aerospace for a while now. The filler site and the speculation turned the expectation of Aerospace into Bungie’s next big project after Halo: Reach. Today, to the dismay of some and the joy of others, it was revealed that Aerospace is NOT their next major title.
Bungie Aerospace will be a resource for a slew of mobile and social independent developers to create new and engaging titles for new platforms. Their independent partners will have access to what they need to make these games such as the Bungie.net platform and a connection with the Bungie community. The first announced partner is Harebrained Schemes which will launch it’s first mobile game title, “Crimson”, on iOS and Android devices this summer.
While it’s not a new Bungie-developed game, they encourage that “great games are awesome, no matter who makes them.”

You already know how Dungeon Siege III holds up on it’s native console, but does it’s jump to the Xbox 360 change anything?
It seems that in today’s world of gaming where action and shooters have claimed the throne, other genres have taken a backseat with some disappearing into obscurity. While the dungeon crawler isn’t exactly dead, it’s a kind of game that not many consider anymore when they think about dropping down sixty for the next new addition of their library. Well now, Square Enix and Obsidian Entertainment is hoping to be the harbinger of Dungeon Siege’s awaited return. Is it successful, or is this another game lost to the much joked about “Obsidian” touch? read the entry »

Sega’s upcoming survival horror game Rise of Nightmares, which is being developed exclusively for Kinect, has a Japanese release date. The game will hit Japanese shelves on September 8th and cost 7329 JPY (~$91(!)). For this somewhat hefty price, players will also get…an Avatar item?
While the games looks like an interesting mix between House of the Dead and Condemned (and is also being developed by the team behind the former franchise), I can’t help but feel that the Kinect controls will pretty much kill it. Since it’s, you know, Kinect. But we’ll find out soon enough, as the game is slated for a stateside release some time in September, probably not too long after the Japanese one.

I’ve never really done anything like this before, but I thought I would throw together a brief montage of the launch party for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition that I was checking out last night.
As you can tell there were a lot of people in attendance, and the lines to play any of the games there were quite long. Included on that list of games was Street Fighter X Tekken, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.
Capcom, as always, put together a nice little event for their fans. Thank you for having me Capcom. I’ll be enjoying my Oni and Evil Ryu bobble heads for some time.

You’re probably aware by now that some people are having a problem with Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D for the 3DS. When you begin the game, there’s no turning back and one cannot restart their saved game if they want to start over. This has come off as a ploy to discourage used game purchases. Some are upset by this while others could care less.
Well, today Capcom has made a statement about the game saves for The Mercenaries 3D. On the Capcom forums, a statement was released saying that it was a design decision to allow everyone to access content and that the sale of used games were not a factor in deciding this.
After the post was made, they promised to try to answer as many questions as possible about the game.
‘In Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, all mission progress is saved directly to the Nintendo 3DS cartridge, where it cannot be reset. The nature of the game invites high levels of replayability, encouraging fans to improve upon mission scores. The save mechanic ensures that both original and unlocked game content will be available to all users. Secondhand game sales were not a factor in this development decision, and we hope that all our consumers will be able to enjoy the entirety of the survival-action experiences that the game does offer.’
So, basically if you buy it used, just think of it like going to the arcade in the old days and trying to beat someone else’s score.

Konami has just released a teaser trailer for their upcoming RPG Frontier Gate which is being developed by tri-Ace for the PSP. The trailer shows off quite a lot of gameplay footage which really looks intriguing if you ask me. But with tri-Ace handling things, that’s not all that surprising. Hit the jump to take a look at their newest effort, which is still in desperate need of an international release date.
