Ubisoft adopts the online pass system with Uplay Passport.

Ubisoft seems intent on joining the ranks of the Online Pass club alongside current inductees like EA, THQ, Codemasters, WB and Sony.  Ubisofts own pass will be named the Uplay Passport and its first implementation will be in the upcoming Driver: San Francisco.  As with all online passes new copies of the game will come with an unlock code for the multiplayer component.  People who buy the game second-hand will need to buy an online pass for the game on XBLA or PSN.  No word yet on whether or not this will be in all future Ubisoft titles but considering the trend it seems likely to be the case.

This is the sort of thing that really annoys me about the games industry. I don’t comprehend how publishers think punishing the consumer for buying a used game is a good idea when chances are it is more likely to turn them off of your brand. The way things are going I wouldn’t be surprised if they start fully implementing DRM in console releases in the next generation.

Turtles in Time Re-Shelled is being removed from XBLA and PSN in North America.

If you were planning on picking up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled you may want to act fast as Ubisoft will be pulling the game from the North American Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store  on June 30th.  The removal is happening due to an expiring licence for the region.  People who already own the game need not worry as the title should still be available through your download history.

I would say its a shame that such a classic has to suffer the same fate as Doritos: Dash of Destruction but then I remembered that this isn’t the classic Konami game I played as a child.

“Killer Freaks From Outer Space” go Viral

June 25, 2011 by

killerfreaks

Ubisoft recently started a viral marketing campaign for their upcoming shooter Killer Freaks From Outer Space. The official page now features fake newscasts, testimonies and other stuff to get your paranoia on and generate buzz in the Wii U exclusive. While I’m still more concerned about how the game will control than anything else, at least the site is pretty well done and even features a fake UNIX prompt to access files with.

Oh, and feel free to insert a generic X-Files “The truth is out there!” kinda reference here.
