Final Fantasy X, X-2, and XII in HD?

HD remakes seem to be the thing to do in the game industry these days. It is a low risk venture with almost always much to gain. Some of the biggest franchises of all time have hopped on the HD bandwagon, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, and Resident Evil, just to name a few. But Final Fantasies not ending in 13, have yet to be given that HD treatment. The wait could be over soon.

Final Fantasy Producer, Yoshinori Kitase said in an interview with 360 Achievements that remakes of these PS2 titles would be considered if the demand was high enough. Let’s take a look at that “demand” shall we? Final Fantasy X has sold over 6.32 million units worldwide, X-2 over 5.2 million worldwide, and XII over 5.7 million worldwide. It seems that the demand is there and rabid Final Fantasy fans would snatch up an HD collection in seconds. If sales numbers don’t equal demand, then head on over to GameFAQs, and check out the boards for these three games, they are some of the most active on the site and each one is over five years old.

Square Enix has said that they were embarrassed by their lack of Eastern games at E3 this year, why not jump on the HD train? They have already said numerous times that a remake of Final Fantasy VII or any other PS1 era Final Fantasy would be to time consuming and costly, but putting a nice HD touch up on the PS2 era games shouldn’t tax the Japanese company to much and in my opinion would be a step in the right direction for the once gaming juggernaut.

PSP Entertainment Pack

It seems that Sony is taking that last gasp of retail air for the PSP before the PSV invades its shelf space. Check out all the details of the PSP Limited Edition Entertainment Pack after the jump.

In this limited edition bundle you receive a PSP-3000 and two games, MLB 11 The Show and Gran Turismo. The bundle retails for $159 which Sony says is a savings of $39. This is a great buy for someone who doesn’t already own a PSP but it seems like a last desperate push for a system on its way out.

The PSP does have a pretty interesting library of games though and I encourage any gamer to check it out. On a side note, I would love to see Sony release these packs with other games, too offer the consumer some variety. To order the bundle click here or head over to your choice of many fine retailers.

SSFIV: AE Launch Party

I’ve never really done anything like this before, but I thought I would throw together a brief montage of the launch party for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition that I was checking out last night.

As you can tell there were a lot of people in attendance, and the lines to play any of the games there were quite long. Included on that list of games was Street Fighter X Tekken, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

Capcom, as always, put together a nice little event for their fans. Thank you for having me Capcom. I’ll be enjoying my Oni and Evil Ryu bobble heads for some time.

Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta Start Time/Info

June 28 marks the day the Uncharted 3 beta starts, and that day is upon us. If you have logged into your PSN account today though and you’re wondering where it is, well according to Naughty Dog’s twitter the beta should begin around 2 PM Pacific Time, so nothing is happening yet. Check out all the beta information after the jump.

If you have trouble with time differences, visit this site for some help. Naughty Dog has placed a greater emphasis on multiplayer this time around and it will be exciting to see the changes they have made, to the already solid multiplayer of Uncharted 2. Here is all the information revealed about the beta so far.

Will be exclusive to both PlayStation Plus subscribers and those who pre-ordered inFamous 2.
The beta will enter its second stage come July 4th, being available to anyone with access to the PlayStation Store.
The beta will close on Wednesday, July 13th.
Three maps and eight game modes will be available over the duration of the beta.
8 Boosters, 4 Power Plays, and 4 Kickbacks are enabled during the beta.
The estimated download size of the beta file is 1.7GB.
Not only will the beta include competitive multiplayer, three co-operative modes including Arena, Hunter, and Adventure will also be made available.
Stereoscopic 3D is enabled
Four basic character models will be available to play as, though there are dozens of customisation options to tamper with.
Split-screen co-op will also be available
25 is the current beta level cap. This will not carry over into the retail version of the game, though performing specific in-game actions will unlock Uncharted 3 unlockables including exclusive decals, and avatar, and even bonus cash.

This release week is pretty much underwhelming. It is nice to see the 3DS get another game but Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition perplexes me. How many people are going to actually buy a physical copy of this game? I assume most fans have already downloaded the extra content which came out a few weeks ago. I suppose this is a good buy for someone who hasn’t already bought a copy of Super Street Fighter IV, but other than that audience I don’t see it selling like hotcakes. Of course this is Street Fighter so I am most likely completely wrong.

July 22, Unofficial Sony Bundle Holiday

July 22 has become an unofficial Sony exclusive holiday. The company will be celebrating three of its most beloved franchises with $40 bundle packs. Uncharted, Resistance and Ratchet & Clank will all be getting that sweet bundle treatment. Check out details of the bundles after the jump.

The Uncharted bundle will come with Drake’s Fortune and Among Thieves, plus an Uncharted 3 avatar and dynamic theme. The Resistance bundle, comes with, you guessed it, Fall of Man and Resistance 2, along with an exclusive Resistance 3 skin. The Ratchet & Clank bundle will include Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time, plus it will come with 4 avatars and an exclusive Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One dynamic theme.

I for one think this is a great move on Sony’s part. All three of these franchises are seeing new installments soon and this is a great way to push those new games. I will certainly be taking advantage of that Resistance and Ratchet bundle (I already own the Uncharted’s). Does this get you excited about the new games coming for these franchises? Trailer – Saints Row: The Third Gameplay

I don’t know what you’ve heard about Saints Row, or what your opinion is on the first two, but you should take it, erase it from your memory, and then watch this gameplay walkthrough for Saints Row: The Third.

It has easily sold me on this installment of the game and I completely skipped the second. In it we get to see a car that shoots people like cannon balls (which can be used in co-op) a jet with a laser beam, an airstrike, and apocalypse hands.

Interested? You should be. You need to see this trailer. Also, some bald guy will be in it. I guess that’s cool.

inFamous 2 Comes To PSN

inFamous 2, a game that was just released a few weeks ago has come to the PlayStation Network as a full download. It is currently priced at the normal retail pricing of $59.99, but gamers don’t even have to leave the house to get a taste of Cole’s electric personality. PlayStation Plus users have the option of playing a 60 minute free demo of the new Sucker Punch game, so in short you can try before you buy.

The original inFamous is still available for free download as part of the welcome back program, so every PSN user can get caught up on all things inFamous from the comfort of their couch. inFamous 2 has been met with mostly positive reviews and has a current MetaCritic score of 83/100. So log in to that PSN account and start blasting some baddies with some sweet electricity.
