HD remakes seem to be the thing to do in the game industry these days. It is a low risk venture with almost always much to gain. Some of the biggest franchises of all time have hopped on the HD bandwagon, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, and Resident Evil, just to name a few. But Final Fantasies not ending in 13, have yet to be given that HD treatment. The wait could be over soon.
Gears of War fans rejoice! A limited edition console featuring one of Microsoft’s biggest franchises is coming to stores this September during the launch of the game. The system will come with a 320GB hard drive and a sweet crimson design with Gears of War logos on top and front. Back in April of this year the Redbox corporation announced that they would soon be offering video game rentals in their kiosks nationwide. This week that announcement came to fruition. 21,000 out of 27,000 of the popular video renting kiosks now have the latest titles for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Redbox began testing $2-per-day game rentals in 2009, and said that in two years consumers rented more than 1 million games from its 5,000 test locations. read the entry »
Fans of the Ghostbusters series have been through alot. First they hear that they’re getting their game, then they hear it was dropped because of the Activision Blizzard merger. But through trials and tribulations, those same Ghostbusters fans will be rewarded for their continued support for the release of this game. Dan Ackroyd of Ghostbusters fame, who is closely tied to the game, stated on a radio station that Ghostbusters has been picked up by Atari and that it was coming “a year away.” Now here’s a question. Why did THQ pick up 50 Cent instead of Ghostbusters?
That’s right! Suda 51 is taking another swing at No More Heroes with No More Heroes 2 or No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle (is that enough No More Heroes?). No word on whether it will still be a Wii exclusive or if it will head to other consoles. Also a sequel to the very meh Ninety-Nine Nights has been announced for the Xbox 360 during Microsoft’s TGS press conference.
What do Metal Slug 7, King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match, Space Invaders Extreme and Arkanoid Live all have in common? They are all coming to Xbox Live with additional content added to them. During today’s Microsoft TGS press conference, Microsoft announced that these titles will be coming to Xbox Live some time next year.
Microsoft also announced today during there TGS 2008 press conference that another former Playstation exclusive is now coming to the 360. Tekken 6 will be released for the Xbox360 along with the PS3 version in Fall 2009. Another slap to the face goes to Sony again, who will not hold a press conference during TGS 2008.
During Microsoft’s TGS 2008 press conference, Star Ocean: The Last Hope was announced to be released on February 19th in Japan and March 3rd in North America to the Xbox 360. No word from the Sony or Square Enix on whether this is a timed exclusive or not, however, there has been no word about console exclusivity from Microsoft either. Keep those fingers crossed, Sony fanboys!
