Earlier this month at E3 Nintendo announced that a new Super Smash Bros game was in the works for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. Sadly it seems Nintendo president Satoru Iwata may have made the announcement a bit prematurely as this weeks Famitsu magazine revealed that production of the game has yet to begin. Masahiro Sakurai’s revealed that his studio Project Sora is currently focusing all its resources on the upcoming Kid Icarus: Uprising.
“Right now, we’re devoting all our manpower to working on Kid Icarus,” “We’ve got no plans whatsoever — we’ve got two new games out in the open when there’s no extra time to work with them at all. It makes me cringe, and I’m not sure it’s the smartest thing to make gamers wait for several years, but the early announcement was made chiefly in order to attract new team members.”
I suppose fans of the franchise can at least be happy that the game will eventually be made. Just don’t hold your breath on it being a Wii U launch title.

In all fairness to Iwata, he did say something at E3 about Sora being solely focused on Kid Icarus right now until it’s release. Still glad it’s on the way though.
